SCHOOL SUBJECTS
Everybody in our school studies Finnish (mother tongue), maths, environmental studies, ICT studies, religious studies, music, arts, p.e. and crafts. English starts in the 3rd grade and there are two lessons of English every week. In the 5th grade environmental studies are divided into four different subjects which are geography, biology, chemistry and physics. The 5th graders also start studying history. In Finland everybody has to study Swedish, but those studies don't start until in the 7th grade. In Orivesi students can study German, French or Russian as optional courses in the 8th and 9th grades. Each school subject has its own studybook and workbook. So there are a lot of books and the schoolbags are very heavy! As the actual schooldays are not very long, students have a lot of homework.
